W. Dan Hausel, mapping in Archean (>2.5 billion year old) complex near the Rattlesnake Hills of Wyoming, where he made a discovery of a new gold district in 1981 containing several Archean exhalitive, vein, stockwork, banded iron formation and Tertiary alkalic and secondary breccia gold deposits. One deposit - Sandy Mountain - was later identified by Canyon Resources and Newmont Gold to host between 250,000 to >1 million ounces of gold.
